Ganges Saturday Market

We will meet at the north entrance to market next to the blue “tower” (see pic) for a brief introduction, walk and debriefing. Please wear outerwear and shoes to suit the weather. Surfaces will range from pavement in town to gentle terrain in the woods. We will walk in reflective silence, moving at a gentle pace that is synchronous with our nervous system and that allows for reflection in action. As we walk, everyone will be invited to internalize the experience in their own way while helping to create a safe mini-community by honouring each others’ pace and space. We will finish by sharing comments and questions with one other and giving feedback about the whole experience in the spirit of constructive support and care.
The soundwalk begins at the north end of the market near the blue tower...
Joi Freed-Garrod has been inspired by the work of R.Murray Schafer and Hildegard Westerkamp since the 1970s, listening to and walking in her environments attentively. Through her teaching career, she has invited students ranging from Kindergarten age to adults to deeply listen to, create/experiment with, and integrate acoustic sounds of all kinds, both environmental and musical, into their generative work and everyday active lives.
Of Sound Minds foregrounds the act of listening, including the importance of listening, learning and unlearning in the practice of Reconciliation. We are grateful to gather on the unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the SENĆOŦEN and HUL’Q’UMI’NUM speaking peoples.
